Faustino Oro is the world’s youngest grandmaster — and the second youngest ever

FIDE has confirmed the grandmaster title for 12-year-old Argentinian Faustino Oro. He earned it at 12 years, 6 months and 26 days — less than two months short of Abhimanyu Mishra’s all-time record. Right now Oro is playing board one for Argentina at his first Olympiad.

Geneva 2026: Gukesh vs Sindarov, the youngest World Championship match in history

The World Championship match starts in Geneva on 22 November: India's Gukesh Dommaraju defends his title against Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov over 14 classical games. Both players will be twenty at the start — the youngest title match since the competition began in 1886.
